- You can use boolean operators (-, |, OR), wildcards (*, ?), and phrase search (") in your query
- For BitTorrent: Paste in a 40 characters info_hash, to search for that particular torrent and browse all trackers tracking it

Its sounds like some security/settings/software on your computer or lan is blocking .torrent file extensions. I actually tried out that hidemyass proxy to make sure it worked before posting about it. |

I'm almost postive that it would be the LAN and not my computer. When I am on a different network, I can download .torrents just fine, but I can't leave this network for a while. Is there a way I can bypass the settings? I don't have administrator access. |

i had the same problem (college networks e___e)
Here's what I did:
Get a friend to download the torrent link from the site and have them just send it to you over AIM or whatever else you use (I couldn't find any way around this...)
then in Azureus open the file, go to options, (or preferences), connection, transfer encryption, then check require encrypted transport, RC4, and check Allow non-encrypted incoming connections.
your download should start

Assumed you've tried hidemyass proxy and still cannot download the torrent file..
Another way to do this, is by setting your browser to stream data through other proxy server instead of your ISP proxy..
First, get a proxy IP address..
there are many sites providing the addresses, but I prefer www.publicproxyservers.com, it has 5 pages of IP list , and fetch only those that are using port
8080
..
I prefer to get more than 1 in case the first one doesn't work well.. then, setting up your browser..
e.g.
216.58.96.135
, a proxy server from Canada
Mozilla Firefox users:
1. Tools > Option > Advanced
2. In Network tab, open Settings for "Configure how Firefox connects..."
3. Check "Manual proxy configuration:" type in
216.58.96.135
in "HTTP Proxy"
Internet Explorer users:
1. Tools > Internet Options
2. In Connections tab, open LAN Settings
3. Check "Use a proxy server for your LAN..", in Address, type in
216.58.96.135
, Port
8080
4. Also check "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" to ensure all connections flow through the new proxy
These modifications may slow down your browsing speed because it will divert all connections to another proxy, which in this case in Canada..
I suggest you set the modifications on one browser (the one used to download torrent files), and leave the other other one unchanged (for normal browsing), if you have 2 browsers installed..
Consider installing a second browser if you don't have one to avoid slow internet surfing..

To stop it blocking .torrent files, save it as a .txt to your computer and open it with your torrent downloader |

Xerxes, I had a security problem so your idea with the .txt helped me, thanks. What can I do that I don't have to do that each time? |

I'm having a similar problem...
Whenever I try to download the original .torrent file, it either doesn't ever begin downloading or the download speed slows down to around 1 byte/second.
What can I do about this?

I'm having the same exact problem. Renaming the files to txt isnt even helping. I've completely disabled and turned off my anti-vi and firewall to see if that was causing it, but apparently it's not. What else might one suggest? Thanx for any help. |

With the info given here it's kind of hard to figure things out, but I'll give it a shot.
First and foremost you need a BT client.
uTorrent
is the recommended client of the masses
Second after you download and install uTorrnet if you haven't already you should set it up for your specific connection speed. There is a great guide
HERE
Third if you are using a router you'll need to open a port for incoming BT connections. You used to have to do this manually which is quite difficult if you didn't know what you were doing but now there is a tool that does it for you
HERE
Also you may be getting throttled by your ISP in which case you can use this site
Glasnost
to check for that.
Aside from the info I've given you there are many helpful guides in the New Members Intro section with a wealth of knowledge. Hope this helps ya |

Thanks for the reply, but I think you misunderstood the post. I've been using torrents since it was invented by Bram Cohen. Not trying to brag or anything but my point is all this has all been said and done ages ago. Last week I was downloading the torrent files (".torrent" aka hash files) from sites just fine, and this week when I click on "download torrent" it just doesn't download. I think that's all of our problems here, not the actually downloading of data after loading the torrent into the torrent client. At least thats my problem, and thats what I made out of the other's posts. |

the post you replied to was over half a year old, and before that the posts are over a year old - so any problems they may have had were resolved - re-read the thread
what specific problem are you speaking/writing of?
you have given little to no information for anyone to help you
if you want more pertinent advice then explain the problem you are experiencing
b/c i am guessing your problem is not being able to download the *.torrent
do you have this problem with ISOHunt?
b/c the previous posters point at torrentspy not allowing right click so one could not save as .txt and a suitable workaround would be to use a proxy to access the other site(s)
so have you tried the other advice like using proxy for other site(s)?
also if the ISP is denying *.torrent files to be saved - then you need to rename them to *.txt
before
you download
not rename files you already have on your system/rig/computer
you say you've renamed the files - was that during the right-click save-as dialog or after trying to download as a *.torrent file? |
