I started recycling at my house because I had to pay for recycle anyways, so I chose not to waste the money. Then it became habit and a little touch of care for our planet so now I recycle. I actually go out of my way to do it too. I remember my friends getting pissed at me because I took 5-6 of their phone books and recycled them, when they were going to be thrown away.

The wife and I have been avid recyclers since it all started. Or at least since we started 12 years ago. And my parents (and I) were into it when I lived at home before that. Now we do it For the Boy (see avatar), In hope it will somewhat improve (or Up-Keep) his Environment in the future. I always loved Hiking, Fishing, Camping and Just straight-up Enjoying Nature. I hope he can do the same.

I always recycle. I also have been try to reduce the amount of plastics I use. Plastic bags from shopping are the worst. You can do a lot of good by using reusable bags for shopping.

I wish I could say yes, but I generally don't remember. I have decided it's just as eco-friendly to become a vegetarian and drive a gas-efficient vehicle. Some day when the garbage trucks offer a special service to collect recyclable goods I'll start recycling, but until then I don't think I'll have the motivation.

I recycle to a 2:1 ratio.

I'm not sure how that ends up the way it does but I'm glad I contribute somehow. I think a big part of it is what kind of food you buy. Generally I've found the more time you take to prepare the meal the less garbage comes out of it (pardon the pun Razz)

If you are able to recycle I urge you to but I understand many places don't even offer that service.

Why you should recycle plastics instead of trash them: article

Tyler. What does that mean, a 2:1 ratio? Do you mean at the end of the week you have one bag of garbage an' two of recyclables?

Where i am we used to have one wheelie bin for all rubbish which was collected every week. Now we have two bins; one for food waste the other for plastics, paper, metal, glass and textiles. These are now collected on alternate weeks. For me it works quite well as i take the time to wash and dry all tins, jars, and plastics otherwise cross contamination would render them useless as recyclables. But not all are as committed to this scheme.
Indeed some just fill one bin with everything and them start on the next one. The fact that these bins are emptied straight into a bin truck the whole lorry load becomes contaminated and will ultimately end up in land fill.

Our whole society is based on a throw away basis. Everything the individual does is a mere drop in the ocean. What is needed now is a complete rethink of everything from design, to manufacture, to amount of choice of product, to public perception and attitude and of course education.

I mean, who here has bought a new TV say in the the last 2 yrs? Was the old TV still working? Did it end up in the trash?

Like what? Can you, as a 15 yr old who doesnt own or run a household or shop for a family or earn the money to do so, explain what children can do to help recycling programmes?

Its Sad, but Recycling as a concept hasn't really taken off where I live. I wish it would. Do the Earth and nature a good turn, as it does us, every moment of our lives.

Well I always recycle plastic, glass paper...ect.

I also got my self one of them water bottles that i re-use all the time so I wont have to buy new ones and waste more plastic. Me and my dad love to work in the garden so we got our own compost thing, we throw in orange peelings from our trees ect. and we get our own compost

everything is really close here so we dont really use a car a lot basicly bike/walk everywhere.

Hellz I re-use everything I can.

btw we got a new tv but we still use our old one cause it still works.
