I know this particular topic has been mentioned tons of times but I am saying it again. A couple weeks ago I picked up both KOTOR's and started 2 playthroughs on each: DS and LS playthroughs. Starting these games again I realized they have aged incredibly well. The graphics are great for a Xbox game and the RPing is better than a lot of RPGs of this generation. (Xbox 360, PS3)
Of course I started thinking KOTOR 3 would be a goddamn hit. But... Bioware may have ruined that with SW:TOR. The canon, imo, is a pile of bullshit but maybe Obsidian can start another KOTOR 3 project and not necessarily follow the canon.

KOTOR 2 fed on the success of the original KOTOR I think. Not that the 2nd one wasn't good, mechanically it was much better than the first but the first one still blows 2 out of the water solely on characters and their stories. The second one on its own is good but after the outstanding climax of the first game it really just doesn't compare.
That was back in the day when Bioware's proverbial head was situated on its proverbial shoulders and not up its proverbial ass. I wouldn't trust them with a KOTOR 3 as it would probably be another generic piece of moldy bread (I've given up swearing so forgive my pooey replacement swear words).
As for Obsidian.... Well their games can surely be fun but they can't put together a good story....
Fallout New Vegas.... Good game, Lame story.
Alpha Protocol.... Mediocore game, Lame story.
Dungeon siege 3.... Lame game, Lame story.
KOTOR 2.... Good game, Okay story.
Not that I wouldn't like another KOTOR but Obsidian are to heavy handed with the story and I think most would agree that it's the epic story that sets KOTOR apart.
So my opinion is to let sleeping dogs lie. That's my opinion of course so feel free to disagree. |

You do bring up some good points that I never thought of. I totally agree with KOTOR 2 feeding off the success of KOTOR 1. I know you are probably right about just letting it go but I feel like so much could have been done with KOTOR 3. But...Bioware ruined Revan and The Exile's plot with that damn SW:TOR game, sorry if you like it, so it would be a little pointless now. It is just that the series means a lot to me as a gamer, so whenever I play it again I just think of would could have been. You are right though. It is hopeless. Obsidian is bad with storylines and ever since Bioware let those bloodsuckers EA in their games have went downhill, just look at Dragon Age 2. So I don't really think someone could handle KOTOR 3. I guess I'm just being impulsive and naive. I fear I will always mourn over what COULD have been the greatest game I ever played.
P.S. Cheers to giving up swearing! If only I could! |
