Hi! As a happy owner of PC:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz, 4gb RAM, GeForce 9600 GT running on Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (build 7600), 64-bit
I have a question.
Would You recommend switching to Windows 8 and if so, why? |

Microsoft recommends:
1 GHz or faster processor
1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
So technically you will have no problems running it.
I personally wouldn't use it yet, I'm going to wait for them to iron out the bugs first... and Windows 7 suits me fine. Not to mention Windows 7 is still "new". |

Just had a bit of a look around the reviews and it looks like it will be pretty good.. As far as going and sitting outside the shops in the cold for hours waiting for the shop to open to be among the first to buy it Stuff That,, I'd be giving it 12 months for them to work out the bugs then putting the money into a new pc with Win8 |

Nice link johnno, as for me? I'm on the fence, I don't get along with new technology too well! |

The link seemed pretty objective......not a fan review.
What I found interesting is that it seems that with 8 MS are doing something new....I know that all OS's tend to merge in many areas but for once it seems MS are actually working hard as opposed to just revamping. Good news for all users regardless of choice. Seems MS are paying attention to intel as well.
Intel makes chips but these days the dye's are so small a huge amount of software or basic routines can be placed direct onto the cpu which means the OS does not need to hold but only send the correct trigger. This is what will drive the future imo.
CPU's are getting smaller faster and capable of holding a basic OS and its routines.....after all regardless of system it all breaks down into 00101010101110101 zero's and one's. |

It depends on what you use your pc for, its still in development stage so a lot of games/apps/programs won't work on it (at least properly). If you want to get it to play around with and check out its features it would be worth it, but I would partition your drive or something, no point putting an unstable os over a stable one. |

this is what I was thinking about. I'm already using both Win7 and Ubuntu:) I think I will just wait until it will be reliable enough. |

i think the win7 /ubuntu combo is as good as it gets. win 8 is a thin edge of the wedge for a new era in managed computing. dont worry about what you want to use your device for, it will no longer be a computer, and MS has the final say on what you can use on it, as well as what you can do with it.
i hope you dont like firefox, cuz MS dont like it either, and win 8 wont let it run. the dual boot thing seems to be handy for you and win 8 doesnt like dual booting, (its a tech called "safeboot") so the system wont be owned by anything but the w8 kernal |

bullseye:) This is what I was actually worried about. For a longer while I'll stay with what I've got... feel safer with that after what I read here.
Thank guys

Wow, I have not looked to far into win 8, due to lack of interest lol. But if MS wants to play that game they can jam it up the bum. I'll stick with my duel boot and firefox thank you very much. |

This is exactly what I use. Win7 is my main platform, but I run Ubuntu 10.04 on a virtual machine to do a bunch of things, because I'm a big Linux fan.
Regarding Win8, it smells like tablet to me, too much tablet-biased, and I don't want to turning my desktop into a tablet. |

Indeed it's like they are going for touch and tablets which isn't my thing
I'll stick to my half working Windows 7 and dead Ubuntu |

I hear what people are saying and I would agree...... if you want an operating system you can control then 7 seems to be it.....
8 on the other hand does seem to be an interesting development albeit going the way of Apple and improving over the ios. ios for Apple works and regardless of if you like or hate apple their ios system is very robust but you have to be happy with what you get and no tinkering.
Win 8 has its strength in that it will be a system that although it appears to be locked in just as the ios from Appleit comes with one major difference.....it is a system that will run across all devices.....the good or bad is open to discussion and debate but as an Apple user i am envious of the fact that a system runs across all devices as opposed to having two systems run next to each other which is what I have with apple.
For mainstream users i think MS has a good product on the horizon but for those that want control......at least MS by law must support their product Windows 7 for several more years by which time linux has come of age and ready for world domination |
