Well, the forum post link 404ed. What is the syntax for the new integer preference “nglayout.initialpaint.delay supposed to be? pinglayout.initialpaint.delay, or just nglayout.initialpaint.delay?

Edit:
Wait, nvm - found it. it's nglayout.initialpaint.delay - New link to instructions:

Very off topic, and no - follow your own link. I work in information systems, which just means part of my job is querying/altering an Oracle database for a company using PL/SQL. The company itself is high security and makes security products. In spite of programming in Java, C#, and C++ I do not know all of the little quirks of programs that other people designed. That job is left to Techs, or if someone pays me enough to do some software testing.

3. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to “0.

Ok what does that mean? I was doing everything and now I got stuck here, why is it written/typed in those weird letters? it says there, "name it
“nglayout.initialpaint.delay these letter ----->†do those count or what are those? I'm confused, why not just type it in regular plain english, maybe I'm the only who doesn't understand it... thanks for the help guys. if any one can explain this to me....

P.S so, what should I do? should I just name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay with the question mark? or should I just copy and paste the whole thing, even with those weird letters or whatever they are.

Yes that is the correct, nglayout.initialpaint.delay is the name. The special characters are not required.

Yes, you can copy paste it. It controls how long firefox waits before drawing the page, giving the browser sometime to acquire data to render with. Lowering it means that there will be less waiting before firefox draws the page.

Everything you say is extremely exciting! And why do you have 6 browsers, might I ask?

Easy, he's a web developer, uses different browsers for testing.

From http://www.hackaday.com/entry/1234000803024910/

Original article wrote:
orevergeek.com has a useful guide on speeding up firefox for broadband users. basically after getting to the hidden config settings you set the browser to request more data that it usually does.

1.Type “about:config into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining to “true

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining to “true

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to “0. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

New article with some more options: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum21/8007.htm

Original article wrote:
To get started, type "about:config" in your FireFox address bar. The settings you're looking for are:

2.) network.http.pipelining.firstrequest => true
<snip> (rest of the tweaks already in first article)

Talks about tweaking parameters to enable http pipelining, and optimizing for broadband. Enjoy! Wink

If you are still using IE, Firefox is a good free alternative.

Thank you, great info.

Just one question as this thread is quite old, are there newer/better tweaks for firefox and does fasterfox and firetune still get the thumbs up?
