incompatibility falls on the maker of the hardware to develop drivers, not on microsoft to magically gleen the machine code for each and every one of the thousands of potential manufacturers and chipsets on the market...
thanks for playing.

This thread reminded me of back in the early ‘90s when I took a job where they used Macs. I had a computer at home with Windows 3.1 on it and had never used a Mac before. There was a learning curve, but wasn’t very long, and I thought, wow, this OS reminds me so much of the Windows OS. I liked working on them and I remember thinking at the time that I was pretty sure the Mac OS was here first and that Windows was such a rip-off of the Mac OS. Image

Just my two cents Image

I'm honestly starting to see both mac and linux users as some sort of cult at this point after reading their blogs and visiting their sites. It's not just a operating system or a company, they truly believe it's a way of life.
http://asia.cnet.com/blogs/derived-regulation/post.htm?id=63007925

In a way it is a way of life, because it shows how ones personality is.
Since most Mac users nowadays are switchers from Windows, they were willing to try something completely new and different and change the way they work instead of just using the what they know not willing to try/learn something new like most people do... Stepping out of their Comfort Zone.

I believe that most Mac users have this personality trait overall in their life. Owning a Mac doesn't really change you (although some researchers have said that it increases creativity), but it is more of a physical expression of that trait.

Of course this isn't a fact, but more of an observation.

By the way, don't put Linux users in the same group as Mac users. They are very much different from each other.

I use Vista and Ubntu, I dont think Windows Vista is a mac OSX clone, similar sure, but has many many differences i cant list ^^

In the USA when I came from Israel i did not know wtf was a mac, used them in school and I was " okay, these really are just about the worst things I have ever used" and I am not talking about them old macs from like the 1990's schools have, we had brand new macs from like 2006

and some from 2004 and they really just really are annoying, Windows is designed better I think personally.

oh how sweet, only you forgot a few things:
1 - no one likes me
2 - I don't care
3 - If I am an idiot, it's only because I tried to get into a debate with one.

I love you, C_F. Wink

My daughter has Vista on her laptop and wants to go back to XP. If Vista is a rip off of anything then the original must be crap.

She is very disappointed with the performance on her 2GB standard and was advised to get another 2 gig of RAM. Big money for struggling student (In as much as any necessary purchase is 'big money' for students).

On that subject, I don't know what it's like in the rest of the World, over here in Australia anything 'Apple' is very expensive. With their elitism, exorbitant costs for any upgrade and exclusive licensing, Apple is not a viable alternative, even for the free spirits that are daring and insist on being on the cutting edge, unless they have loads of moolah or a rich parent.

Who cares if you are superior or original if you have priced yourself out of the reach of the majority?

edit:

@fssalaska : Nice retrieve, better than the original flaming comments. Very Happy

The jury is still out for me on Vista. I was firmly on XP's side, but I'm getting used toi Vista - don't know if I like it yet.

I have to say on that subject I agree. The only people I know that have Macs (laptops of course) are my sister (the doctor), her husband (the financial analyst) and their kids (all three of them) Image

I will concede that much against vista, it's an incredible resource hog, but it's long been a tradition that all new versions of windows are more and more resource sucking vampires than the ones before.
If you're not running the minimum of a dual core with decent ddr2 and sata hard drives I will say xp is probably more reasonable for you.
Initially I only switched over to vista myself for dx10 (which isn't an enormous difference in most games to be honest) and soon quit on it, then I recently tried it again and it's a completely different experience than it was before... figures they just get it working right , right as they start announcing the release of yet another windows...
Anyhow, as I keep yelling over and over again... no OS is perfect and it's more a matter of what works for you, and exactly what you are interested in.

The problem with a mac is that a $700 PC is $1500, id rather spend that $800 on hardware - actually for the price of a mac i can build a comparable desktop and buy a laptop with the savings, lol.

Now to be fair, I wasn't saying that and I don't think they are all that. I definitely would never use the word 'superior' to describe the Mac or its user.

But now you mention it, Mac users do think they rule they world.

Original and creative? Why are Mac Users all so similar and bland? Most of them are boring as bat shit.

Out of the comfort zone? Out of motivation to put any real effort into computing, more likely. The Mac is made to put you into a comfort zone - it's a selling point.
"Out of their comfort zone" describes Linux users better.

And Steve Jobs is a control freak, which explains a lot. He may not be 'Illuminati' but he would be if he could.
