Episode 41 of the Open Licensed Music Podcast featuring cartoon music.

Hi, and welcome to the Open Licensed Music Podcast, the show where we highlight music from artists who let you share their music. I'm Ralph Wacksworth, and today's episode is featuring cartoon music.

The Honors March (0:45 @ 0:10) - http://musopen.org/music/piece/418
Habanera (4:07 @ 0:51) - http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100656
Divertissement - Pizzicato (from the ballet Sylvia) (1:38 @ 5:01) - http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100256
Hebrides Overture/Fingal's Cave (11:22 @ 6:36) - http://musopen.org/music/piece/1570

That was The Honors March by John Phillip Sousa and performed by the US Navy Band, which is available from Musopen and is licensed as Public Domain. After that was Habanera from the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet and performed by Kevin MacLeod, which is available from incompetech.com and is licensed under an Attribution license. Then we had Divertissement - Pizzicato (from the ballet Sylvia) by Léo Delibes and performed by Kevin MacLeod, which is available from incompetech.com and is licensed under an Attribution license. Finishing up was The Hebrides overture or Fingal's Cave by Felix Mendelssohn and performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra for the Musopen project, which is available from Musopen and is licensed as Public Domain.

As you've just heard, this week's episode is not all Public Domain like I usually aim for for cartoon music episodes. But it is still Attribution, so there's still plenty you can do with this music.

So with that said, let's get back to music.

Prelude to act 3 and bridal chorus (from Lohengrin) (6:33 @ 18:54) - http://musopen.org/music/piece/492
Home Sweet Home (1:17 @ 25:26) - http://soupgreens.com/2012/10/28/home-sweet-home/
The Messiah, Hallelujah (3:51 @ 26:43) - http://musopen.org/music/piece/793
La Cumparsita (3:47 @ 30:36) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:La_Cumparsita_(tango).ogg
Canon in D Major (5:55 @ 34:25) - http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100301

That was Prelude to act 3 and bridal chorus from Lohengrin by Richard Wagner and performed by the United States Marine band, which is available from Musopen and is licensed as Public Domain. After that was Home Sweet Home by Sir Henry Bishop and performed by Lucas Gonze, which is available from soupgreens.com and is licensed under an Attribution license. That recording could probably be considered a form of historical preservation - he used not only sheet music but instruments from 1900 and earlier to play it and has the sheet music available on his website if you want to try playing it yourself. Then we had The Messiah, Hallelujah by George Frideric Handel and performed by Orchestra Gli Armonici, which is available from Musopen and is licensed as Public Domain. Next up was La cumparsita by Gerardo Matos Rodríguez, which is available from Wikipedia and is licensed as Public Domain. Finishing up was Canon in D Major by Johann Pachelbel and performed by Kevin MacLeod, which is available from incompetech.com and is licensed under an Attribution license.

Today's app-of-the-day is DOSBox, an x86 emulator specifically intended for running old games. For those of you unfamiliar with emulators, when you run DOSBox, it basically boots up a simulation of an old computer inside of your new one, allowing you to run old programs that no longer run properly on modern computers. DOSBox runs pretty much everywhere - there's even a port of it for my cell phone. It's available for Linux, BSD, OS/2, OpenSolaris and OpenIndiana, BeOS and Haiku, Kolibrios, RISC OS, XBox, PSP, Wii, Palm OS, webOS, Symbian, Maemo, BlackBerry Tablet OS, Android, Apple iOS, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, and probably many more. Check it out today at dosbox.com

Now for a short noncommercial break from one of our nonsponsors followed by more music.

Nonsense Novels - http://librivox.org/nonesense-novels-by-stephen-leacock/
Also Sprach Zarathustra (1:26 @ 44:03) - http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100687
Rock-A-Bye Baby (5:22 @ 45:25) - http://soundcloud.com/larchambault/rock-a-bye-baby
Pop Goes The Weasel Music Box (0:16 @ 50:46) - http://freesound.org/people/cgrote/sounds/151320/
Sobre las Olas (7:27 @ 51:02) - http://imslp.org/wiki/Sobre_las_Olas_(Rosas,_Juventino)
Manhattan Beach (2:17 @ 58:30) - http://musopen.org/music/piece/429

That was the Sunrise fanfare from Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss and performed by Kevin MacLeod, which is available from incompetech.com and is licensed under an Attribution license. After that was Rock-A-Bye Baby by an unknown composer and performed by Nexus 6, which is available from SoundCloud and is licensed under an Attribution license. Then we had Pop Goes The Weasel Music Box, again originally by an unknown composer, performed by cgrote, which is available from FreeSound and is licensed under an Attribution license. Next up was Sobre las Olas by Juventino Rosas and synthesized by, and I'm going to give this my best shot, Alberto Eliseo Méndez Blackaller y orquesta XYZ Antares, which is available from IMSLP and is licensed under an Attribution license. Finishing up was Manhattan Beach by John Phillip Sousa and performed by the United States Marine Band, which is available from Musopen and is licensed as Public Domain.

So, that's all for today. Remember - piracy of commercial music only proves your dependence on that model and justifies further censorship and restriction. So don't pirate it - replace it with something better. Listen to open licensed music, donate to the artists behind it, go to concerts, and buy music from artists whose record labels don't see you as their enemies. Support artists where your support actually counts.

This episode was made using Gentoo Linux, Xubuntu Linux, Audacity, Audacious for organizing playlists, and Leafpad for notes, and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution license. Feel free to give it to your friends, or if you didn't like it, your enemies. Links to the songs in this podcast are available on the website. Listen in next time for some steampunk music. See 'ya!

Single by All Saints

from the album All Saints

"Never Ever" is a song by All Saints, released as the second single from their debut album, All Saints. It became a very successful worldwide hit and was the first of five #1 singles in the UK for the group. (See also: 1998 in British music). The single was released in the United States on July 7, 1998 with a new music video. It is also the band's most successful single to date. The single debuted at #13 on the US charts on July 25, 1998 and reached #4.

The song entred the UK Singles Chart at #3 on 22nd November 1997 and stayed in the Top 5 for 8 weeks before climbing to #1 on 17th January 1998 for 1 week. The song went on to spend a total of 24 weeks in the chart. A total of 1,263,658 copies [1] of the single were sold in the UK, making it All Saints' biggest hit; 770,000 copies were sold before it became #1 which makes it more than any single ever before in the UK chart history. All Saints won two BRIT Awards for this single in 1998: Best Single and Best Video.

they do sound better than any mp3, provided you have a good sound system.
Deserted palace and Musique pour supermarche are included in mp3 form, as they are more difficult to find.

I could not find every album, but i'm still searching.

this torrent will be deleted as more material becomes available, and replaced with an updated one.
therefore, you must check this page periodically. if the torrent is replaced, download the new one, save to the same location, do a hash-check and you can resume. existing files will not be changed.

also, i think it's common courtesy to upload as much as you download. don't hit and run...

Probably the best game ever to any system. (This package
is fixed, updated and ready to play on all windows system
including XP.) But for those who's still young and don't
know what this game is check these links:

INFO

FFE FAQ

I went through alot to get this game. First I Searched
the web and found it on Ebay. Then I went through a week
long auction. When I finally won the auction I had to
create an account on PayPal because the owner wont accept
other payment. Then I had to wait three more painful days
before it finally arrived by mail.

This pack contains:

FFE.rar : The game files.
DATA.rar : This is the video files.
ReadMe.txt: This message.

I have splitted the game into two parts incase you only
want the game. It will work without the video files but
it might feel lonely in space so it's recomended. Besides,
it's quite impressive what they could achieve back then.

I have inserted some files to make it work on Windows without
Dos and Dosbox and found out that it also works on XP without
Dosbox. I also changed some sound FXs to more exciting ones.
If you want the old ones just check the FX folder and extract
the original over the new ones.

Installation:

1. Extract "FFE.rar".
2. Execute "ffewin28.exe" to play.

To use the video files extrct "DATA.rar" into "FIRSTENC"
folder. Then turn it on via the in-game configuration.

For those with impressive soundcards (not the motherboard
inbuild) might need to edit the file "ffewin.cfg" under
[SOUND] parameter, to make the mid music use your soundcards
sound library. Just change the 1 to 0 or something. I'm
not sure how but I got it to work on mine.

That's it!

Happy space warping.

Note that FLAC is NOT a lossy format such as Mp3s which might injur your HiFi equipment badly. FLAC is nothing but the best and without all the DRM enabled crap Apple and Microsoft push out these days.

AMG Review by Ned Raggett

Though probably nobody fully appreciated it at the time -- perhaps least of all the band! -- Depeche Mode's debut is at once both a conservative, functional pop record and a groundbreaking release. While various synth pioneers had come before -- Gary Numan, early Human League, late-'70s Euro-disco, and above all Kraftwerk all had clear influence on Speak and Spell -- Depeche became the undisputed founder of straight-up synth-pop with the album's 11 songs, light, hooky, and danceable numbers about love, life, and clubs. For all the claims about "dated" '80s sounds from rock purists, it should be noted that the basic guitar/bass/drums lineup of rock is almost 25 years older than the catchy keyboard lines and electronic drums making the music here. That such a sound would eventually become ubiquitous during the Reagan years, spawning lots of crud along the way, means the band should no more be held to blame for that than Motown and the Beatles for inspiring lots of bad stuff in the '60s. Credit for the album's success has to go to main songwriter Vince Clarke, who would extend and arguably perfect the synth-pop formula with Yazoo and Erasure; the classic early singles "New Life," "Dreaming of Me," and "Just Can't Get Enough," along with numbers ranging from the slyly homoerotic "Pretty Boy" to the moody thumper "Photographic," keep everything moving throughout. Gahan undersings about half the album, and Gore's two numbers lack the distinctiveness of his later work, but Speak and Spell remains an undiluted joy.

AMG Review by Ned Raggett

Initially the title must have sounded like an incredibly pretentious boast, except that Depeche Mode then went on to do a monstrous world tour, score even more hits in America and elsewhere than ever before, and pick up a large number of name checks from emerging house and techno artists on top of all that. As for the music the masses got this time around, the opening cut "Never Let Me Down Again" started things off wonderfully: a compressed guitar riff suddenly slamming into a huge-sounding percussion/keyboard/piano combination, anchored to a constantly repeated melodic hook, ever-building synth/orchestral parts at the song's end, and one of Gahan's best vocals (though admittedly singing one of Gore's more pedestrian lyrics). It feels huge throughout, like they taped Depeche recording at the world's largest arena show instead of in a studio. Other key singles "Strangelove" and the (literally) driving "Behind the Wheel" maintained the same blend of power and song skill, while some of the quieter numbers such as "The Things You Said" and "I Want You Now" showed musical and lyrical intimacy could easily co-exist with the big chart-busters. Add to that other winners like "To Have and to Hold," with its Russian radio broadcast start and dramatic, downward spiral of music accompanied by Gahan's subtly powerful take on a desperate Gore love lyric, and the weird, wonderful choral closer "Pimpf," and Depeche's massive success becomes perfectly clear.
