Posted by: Kitlope at 2007-04-11 19:29:43 Category: Audio Description: A Collection of Rock Music - (a mashed up compilation) Audio: Mp3 VBR 224 File Size: 1.58 Gb These were originally recorded around 1999/2000 using VHS tapes @ SP speed by yours truley due to my not liking the inferior sound of cassette. The songs are "mixed in" (mashed-up) to create the effect of non stop streamlined music and to give it certain "flow". Keep in mind this is no professional job or a commerical release...there are a few mistakes and I wouldn't call it a "true" mashup because of the limitations of the hardware used I could not get the desired effect I really wanted. Hardware used at the time was an old (circa mid-1970's) Kenwood reciever that allowed for mixing of the music...granted only the volume for 1 source could be adjusted instead of both being able to be adjusted ...but I managed quite ok when these were recorded although the volume levels tended to be up and down. However, today I'm using Goldwave to capture the WAV file and can level out the volume (compressed the loud passages) and maximize the overall sound. (which is great news). These have not been seperated into seperate tracks, its a mashed compilation that the original intention was to put in the tape and be able to walk away for a couple of hours. I am also suspect that creating seperate tracks would ruin the intended effect and would create "gaps" between the songs, unless a gapless player were to be used. Reading the Wikipedia article on gapless playback I believe its too much hassle than whats it worth to try to seperate the tracks, especially since gapless playback is not supported by many Mp3 players and the like. I wanted to just back these VHS tapes up for my own listening pleasure and to enjoy them on my iRiver iHP-120. I thought though that I would take the extra bit of time and make them available on the torrent network.
