I actually just lost all my rips so rather than re-ripping I've been looking for torrents where possible (much easier than going over to use my friends Wii with a working disk drive).
As for you question on the compression: It's because the ISO is a full size disc not a full size game. Wii play in all actuality is only as big as the compressed file. The compression simply removed the empty space present in all ISO's (an ISO must by standards be either 4.7GB for single layer or 8 GB for dual layer).
I use WiiBackupManager to compress mine to CISO which both the backup manager and ModMii can use to convert to various formats (WiiBackupManager for wbfs and ModMii for DI).
