Uploader's Comments: The featured artist for our December 8th-9th show is TOMMY EMMANUEL.
As a youngster, Tommy Emmanuel was inspired to learn guitar when he heard the legendary Chet Atkins. Decades later, Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel's biggest fans. In 1999, Atkins bestowed the title of "Certified Guitar Player" to Emmanuel for his lifetime contribution to the instrument, an honor shared by only four other players (Steve Wariner, John Knowles, and the late Jerry Reed and Paul Yandell). In 1996, Atkins and Emmanuel recorded an album together—The Day The Finger Pickers Took Over The World—which garnered Emmanuel his first Grammy Award nomination. This was also Atkins' last recording.
Emmanuel tours relentlessly and draws large, enthusiastic crowds at his concerts, both in the U.S. and around the world. His no-holds-barred intensity is matched by few solo guitarists. In our exclusive interview, Emmanuel takes us behind the scenes of his latest release, Little By Little. He describes recording this double album and looks back on his musical journey, which now spans 50 years as a professional guitarist. In addition to conversation, we'll hear selections from Little By Little.
This week, we also remember Paul Yandell, the extraordinary guitarist who shared the studio and stage with Chet Atkins for 24 years. We'll hear an exclusive interview with Yandell, recorded shortly before he passed away a few weeks ago.
Our weekly Player Spotlight shines on a guitarist you may not have heard before, but who has something special to offer. This week, we'll hear a track from Susan Surftone and her band from their latest album, Shore.
Want yet more music? Great—how about some vintage T-Bone Walker, instrumentals from Los Straitjackets and Jon Rauhouse, a soulful track from the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and haunting soundscapes from both Kaki King and Steve Tibbetts.
Be sure to tune in on-air or online for an hour of sonic stimulation and guitar talk!
